About Latvia and Riga

Latvia is among the few countries left in the world where natural ecosystems, largely untouched by man, still thrive in half of its territory. It is a haven for the tourist who seeks to experience a land where nature and tradition have coexisted in harmony from time immemorial. Its capital, Riga, is located along the Baltic Sea at the southern coast of the Gulf of Riga. The Riga City history is more than 800 years long.

Riga is becoming the new Congress and Conference City in Europe. Many believe it is the Coolest Congress and Conference City of the emerging 21st century. And it is ideal for any events. Why? There are many reasons. Everything is within walking distance. The exciting old city and the beautiful centre are so compact and full of fun. Riga and Latvia is the new EU and NATO country undergoing great and fascinating changes. The quality of hotels and meeting facilities is superb, new and fresh in historical surroundings. Airport is 10 minutes from the city centre. Culture is excellent, yet affordable. Dining is tasty. Price level is very friendly. And people are high-educated with Northern-European efficiency.

Riga is well known for its picturesque and unique architecture. In the architecture of the historic centre of Riga you can find architectural styles from Gothic to Modernism. In some districts of Riga, for various reasons, complex wooden constructions of that time have still been preserved, and that is an amazing phenomenon in the 21st century. In 1997 the historic center of Riga due to this valued architecture was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Latvia is not richly endowed with natural resources, so its future is dependent in very large measure on intellect, which may be regarded as the nation’s greatest resource.

Climate in Riga is influenced by its proximity to the sea; therefore it is moderately warm and humid. Riga, Latvia weather reports are available here http://www.meteo.lv/public/prognoze_Latvijai.html.
