In the end of the 20th century techniques to slow down and even store a light impulse was proposed by physicists. In the following years a lot of theoretical and experimental research has been done, it is supposed to be very useful in enhancing the existing classical optical communication networks as well as in developing upcoming networks of quantum communications.
